공급망 트레이서빌리티(원자재부터 완제품까지 자재의 이동경로나 상품을 인지 추적하는 프로세스)는 증가하는 규제 압박과 상품 및 서비스에서의 책임감 있는 생산, 공급에 대한 소비자들의 요구로 전세계 기업들의 주요한 의제가 되었습니다. 식품 안전, 분쟁광물, 산림파괴로 트레이서빌리티의 필요성이 강조되었고, 유기농, 공정무역, 친환경사회적 제품과 자재에 대한 요구가 증가하였습니다.
이에 따라, 유엔글로벌콤팩트와 BSR(Business of a Better World)은 전세계의 기업과 이해관계자들을 돕기 위하여 최초의 트레이서빌리티에 관한 가이드를 발표하였습니다. 이 가이드는 점차 발전하고 있는 공급망 지속가능성 구도를 다루고 보다 넓은 지속가능성 목표를 달성할 수 있게 돕고 있습니다.
